Legend holds it that coffee was discovered by an Ethiopian goat herder when he noticed that his flock got a lot peppier when its members ate the seeds of a certain bush. He tried some of the beans for himself and found that he felt a lot peppier too! This may have been the most important discovery in human history, because we estimate that without coffee all of civilization would cease to function by about ten in the morning.
