Dunkeld Atholl Brose is a Scotch whisky liqueur from Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin family firm famous for its aged single malts. Its recipe reaches back to a legend from 1475, when the Earl of Atholl is said to have trapped the rebel Lord of the Isles by filling his drinking well with honey, oatmeal and whisky; the mixture was so good that his quarry stayed to drink it and was captured. Gordon & MacPhail's modern version blends Speyside single malt Scotch with honey, herbs and a hint of toasted oatmeal. Bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof) in a 750ml bottle.It is silky and smooth with heather honey, sweet spice and a nutty, oaty warmth over a real malt whisky backbone, less cloying than most whisky liqueurs.
