Lavender-blue stars by the hundreds—and they tumble! Campanula poscharskyana ‘Blue Waterfall’ is a high-performing trailing bellflower that smothers itself off and on through a remarkably long season. The open, star-shaped flowers sparkle against fresh green foliage, creating a loose, lively display rather than a stiff carpet.
Only about 6–8 inches tall, ‘Blue Waterfall’ sends trailing stems outward to roughly 30 inches, spilling beautifully over walls, steps, container rims, hanging baskets, and rocky edges. It is equally useful as a fast-growing groundcover beneath shrubs or at the front of a border, where the low mound can soften the feet of taller plants without hiding them.
Bright shade is one of its best tricks. Use it along a shaded path, in a cool pocket between stones, or anywhere a taller perennial would feel clumsy. It can also take part sun or sun where conditions are not excessively hot. Evergreen in mild-winter areas and impressively long-lived, it brings color and movement to spaces that are often difficult to dress.
Rich, loamy soil gives the fullest display, and a cutback in fall keeps the trailing growth fresh and compact. Otherwise, this is an obliging little bellflower with a lot more flower power than its modest height suggests. Explore more Campanula and bellflowers.
