Brennivin Special Cask Selection Aquavit｜ Other Products

Brennivín Special Cask Selection is Iceland's "Black Death" dressed for a special occasion — a limited annual release that takes the country's iconic caraway aquavit into genuinely new and exciting territory through dual cask finishing. Where the original Brennivín is unaged and pure, and the Rúgbraud Edition takes its character from geothermally baked rye bread, the Special Cask Selection adds a minimum of six months of maturation in a combination of former Kentucky bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks — two cask types that couldn't be more different from each other but work together beautifully here. Released as Brennivín's annual "winter aquavit," it takes on a golden amber hue from the cask influence and transforms the savory, caraway-forward character of the base spirit into something warmer, richer, and far more approachable as a sipping spirit. Wine Enthusiast praised it as an excellent sipping spirit exploding with vanilla and fresh pear sweetness, with a long and complex finish carrying hints of banana, rye bread, baking spice, and subtle smokiness — the caraway still present underneath but woven into a tapestry of oak-driven complexity that rewards slow sipping. Bottled at 40% ABV — this is the Brennivín for whiskey and rum lovers ready to explore something completely different.
